Fire Wire Skewers
At Grilling Addiction we are always looking for new grilling gadgets and innovations. There are so many products out there and while some make you wonder how you ever lived without them, others are just gimmicks.
I was out one day with my wife doing the whole Home Depot/Bed Bath and Beyond thing when I saw Fire Wire. Fire Wire is a flexible grilling skewer made of food grade stainless steel cable. At first glance I was more than skeptical. Two skewers come in a package and retail for under ten dollars, so I gave them a shot.
It didn’t take long for me to see some of the benefits. The Fire Wire skewers are much longer than traditional wood or metal skewers, allowing you to fit a ton of food, and due to them being flexible you can put them right into a bowl or bag to marinate. It is also easy to find a spot on the grill for them because they can bend around other items. They are pretty easy to maneuver on the grill as well, and the stainless cable cools very quickly making them easy to handle.
There are a couple things that I think could be better. The metal piercing tip stays very hot, and probably doesn’t need to be as long as it is. Also, the price may be a bit high, but considering the large capacity and possible longevity of the product it’s perhaps justifiable.
Overall, I was impressed by this product. I was skeptical at first, but the ease of use, simple functionality and quality of materials changed my mind. For a grade I give it a solid B+.
